If the final letter on the ballast is a N or A, then is probably contains PCBs. If the final letter is a E or combination of E1 or ER the ballast is free of PCBs. If the final letter is T, it is possible it does contain PCBs. All ballasts after March 1978 contain no PCBs. If a date code is stamped on the back, anything after 8703 (year and month) is a non-PCB ballast.
